DAF STRENGTHENS POSITIONS IN 2020

DAF once again became the sales leader on the European market in 2020

In 2020, DAF Trucks strengthened its position in the global commercial truck market. The market share in the European large-size segment (16 t +) increased to 16.3%. The latest generation of trucks was introduced in Taiwan and Brazil, and production of the first zero-emission CF Electric trucks was announced.

In 2020, DAF handed over 37,580 trucks to owners, while total sales in the heavy-duty segment amounted to 230,400 trucks. Such indicators made it possible to establish a record market share of 16.3% for the second year in a row (in 2019, DAF’s share was 16.2%). In the segment of medium-tonnage trucks (from 6 to 16 tons) in Europe, it was possible to sell a total of 41,400 units, and DAF’s market share in this segment was 9.5% (in 2019: 9.7%).

Leader in 6 European countries

DAF retained the top spot in the heavy-duty truck market in the Netherlands (31.8%), Great Britain (31.6%), Poland (23.7%), Hungary (27.9%) and Bulgaria (25.4%). Also in 2020, the company became the leader in Portugal (21.8%). DAF ranks first in the European tractor market and is the most successful foreign brand in Germany and France. The company’s share in the segment of rigid chassis for severe operating conditions increased to 11.5%.

Sales outside of Europe

Last year, DAF sold 5,880 trucks outside the EU and the latest generation trucks were presented in Taiwan (Euro 6) and Brazil (Euro 5), as well as in the Middle East and Africa (Euro 3 and 5). The 10,000th locally produced truck has been handed over to an owner in Taiwan, where DAF ranks first among European heavy-duty truck manufacturers. DAF is also the market leader in Israel and Belarus.

In 2020, DAF sold more than 2,000 PACCAR engines to leading bus and special equipment manufacturers worldwide.

The DAF company announced the release of a new fully electric CF Electric truck with an increased range of 200 km. and recently presented the LF Electric with zero emissions and a range of 280 km.

Ready for further prosperity

In 2020, DAF produced more than 37,600 CF and XF tractors and almost 9,000 LF trucks. “The demand for trucks in Europe increased in the second half of the year in parallel with the improvement of the European economy,” commented Harry Walters, President of DAF Trucks. “The European truck market is forecast to recover in 2021, with sales volume of 250,000 to 280,000 trucks.
