Today, Miki Adriansens, Minister of Economy and Climate of the Netherlands, officially opened a brand new factory for the assembly of battery electric trucks. The new facility was commissioned at DAF’s main production site in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, and will further develop the company’s leading position in the field of environmentally safe transport solutions.
DAF’s new electric truck assembly plant covers an area of 5,000 square meters and includes two assembly lines for the preparation of battery packs, as well as an electric drive module consisting of a front battery pack, a high-voltage distribution box and electrified auxiliary devices. These key components, as well as the electric motor with integrated gearbox, are installed on the car on a main assembly line almost 150 meters long.
Battery electric trucks of the latest generation
DAF has built a factory for the production of battery electric trucks of the latest generation. The new DAF XD and XF Electric models will be available in various configurations. They are powered by PACCAR electric motors and equipped with 2 to 5 battery units (from 210 to 525 kWh). The modular approach allows you to precisely adapt the trucks to the requirements and needs of customers. The possible full range of the new trucks reaches 500 km, which allows you to reach 1000 km per day with zero emissions with careful planning of routes and recharging. Thanks to fast charging with a capacity of up to 350 kW, batteries can be charged to 80% in just 45 minutes. Production of the trucks for quality testing is about to begin, with mass production planned for the summer. DAF expects production to increase to several thousand vehicles per year in the near future in line with growing demand for fully electric trucks.
