DAF to supply five CF Electric tractors to Amazon – Great Britain. The all-electric vehicles, which have a total weight of 37 tons each and produce no exhaust gases, will join Amazon’s fleet of medium-haul trucks. The five DAF CF Electric trucks are the first medium-haul electric trucks that Amazon will operate in Europe.
These vehicles mark an important milestone in the electrification of Amazon’s fleet as part of Shipment Zero, Amazon’s goal to deliver 50% of its shipments with zero carbon emissions by 2030. Five electric trucks will replace diesel ones; as a result, up to 100,000 miles of transport will run on renewable electricity, preventing the emission of about 170 tons of CO2.
“We are delighted that the DAF CF Electric will join the Amazon fleet and support their commitment to the Climate Pledge,” said DAF Trucks Sales Director Elko van Veen. “The DAF CF Electric truck is an important step for the industry towards carbon-free medium-haul transport. It was developed in response to the growing demand for better air quality and reduced CO emissions2in the transport sector. Thanks to smart planning and fast charging, the CF Electric can travel up to 500 kilometers per day. This is a figure that operators can really work with.”
“Amazon is one of the first companies in the world to put electric trucks on the road,” said John Bumphrey, head of Amazon UK. “We aim to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2040, and for us this is an important milestone on the way to decarbonise our transport network, on the way to being able to deliver more orders to customers using zero CO2 vehicles2“.
