DAF Trucks is expanding its model range by introducing a 10×4 chassis, specially designed for difficult operating conditions, particularly in construction. To ensure a high load capacity (technical gross weight up to 52 tons) and excellent maneuverability, the new five-axle configuration of the FAF has a rear tridem consisting of a double leading tandem and a podiomine, steered rear axle.
DAF offers a wide selection of chassis: 4×2, 6×2, 6×4, 8×2 and 8×4. The addition of the factory 10×4 FAF heavy-duty construction chassis expands the lineup even further.
High carrying capacity, excellent maneuverability
The impressive five-axle chassis is equipped with two 8 or 9 tonne sprung front axles and a 34 tonne tridem with air suspension. The Tridem includes a double drive tandem (available with single or step reduction) and a hydraulically operated lifting rear axle. This configuration combines high load capacity with exceptional maneuverability.
Dual front axles and corresponding loads on them allow the installation of heavy-duty cranes directly behind the cab. The steered tridem rear axle is rated for a static load of 26 tons, which is critical for loading and unloading operations of heavy hook containers, where all weight can temporarily be concentrated almost entirely on the rear axle.
A wide selection of engines
The FAF chassis is available with powertrains featuring the efficient PACCAR MX-11 and MX-13 engines, as well as the TraXon automated transmission. Power varies from 300 hp. (220 kW) up to 530 hp. (390 kW).
Maximum security
The new five-axle truck is available in XD and XF versions. The ergonomic design of both cabs is ideal for use with FAF chassis. The angled instrument panel, ultra-low window line and optional curbside viewing window provide excellent all-round visibility around the cab. The digital cameras of the DAF Digital Vision System, DAF Corner View and the rear view camera provide unparalleled indirect visibility of the areas in front, to the side and behind the truck.
