In order to provide hauliers with vehicles that better meet their requirements, DAF Trucks is expanding its model range with new vehicle configurations, including a rigid 8×4 chassis with dual axle and dual drive with steerable driven rear axle. In addition, DAF presents a 10-ton front axle of its own production, as well as a completely new 7.5-ton driven axle. The new developments underline DAF’s desire to expand its model range in the segment of rigid chassis – especially intended for the construction sector.

New bridges
The DAF company has been developing and manufacturing axles since 1958. Therefore, these axles are ideal for most chassis options offered by the company. Axles manufactured by DAF are characterized by a high level of reliability and a long service life, low internal friction and lightness – all this ensures low operating costs and high load capacity.
New: front axle 10 tons
From the second half of this year, in addition to the front axles with a load capacity of 7.5, 8 and 9 tons, DAF will offer 10-ton versions, which will be installed on the CF and XF models. Now there is a need for construction trucks with a high load on the front part, for example, when installing a loading crane behind the cab. Thanks to the parabolic suspension with three-leaf springs, the new 10 t front axle prevents the risk of overloading when partially loaded. This axle is available for CF and XF versions with a single front axle and a PACCAR MX-11 or MX-13 engine.
New: supporting axle 7.5 tons with single wheels
DAF presents a completely new supporting axle with single wheels and a load capacity of 7.5 tons. It has a cast crankcase of a new design, which is characterized by increased strength and reliability, as well as a weight reduced by 10 kg. The static load capacity of the axle has been increased by 25% and is 26 tons, which is an important parameter when the load is placed on the far rear axle for a short time during operation. In the field of construction transport, the new 7.5 ton support axle is ideal for medium-duty rigid chassis, for example for transporting containers and stones equipped with a crane at the rear. In Germany, support axles of this type are often installed on BDF swap body trucks, which are very popular in that country. The new supporting axle can also be installed on tractors of the CF and XF series, increasing their load capacity, for example, for towing low loaders or road trains weighing more than 44 tons.
Dual axle with dual drive for CF and XF
For CF and XF 6×4 trucks that are often used off-road or that require extra tractive effort, DAF offers a range of dual-drive twin axles that require minimal maintenance.
One of them is the SR1132T, a 19 ton twin axle with a single reduction, leaf springs and disc or drum brakes. It is used for 8×4 concrete mixers of small capacity, which are especially popular in Great Britain and Ireland.
For heavy-duty vehicles, DAF offers 21- and 26-tonne single-gear versions. Equipped with disc brakes and air suspension, this double axle with one reduction gear, SR1360T, is installed on tractors and rigid chassis with three and four axles.
The DAF range includes the 21- and 26-tonne twin axles with hub reductions, the HR1670T, which can be fitted with air suspension or leaf springs, and has drum brakes. This option is not only ideal for difficult operating conditions, but also suitable for off-road driving.
An important fact for maximum fuel economy is the presence of at least ten gear ratios of the main gear (from 3.46:1 to 7.21:1 – depending on the dual axle option). At the lowest gear ratios, the engine speed is even lower, which optimizes fuel consumption.
The oil change interval in the crankcase of dual axles is at least three years and/or 450,000 km, which ensures minimum operating costs.
An extended model range of the chassis
In addition to the expanded selection of axles, DAF is expanding its model range with new axle configurations.
Novelty! CF and XF with twin axle and dual drive and steered driven rear axle
Later this year, deliveries of a new version of four-axle trucks with single or dual drive – FAW – will begin. It is a four-axle CF or XF triple-axle rigid chassis consisting of an SR1360T twin axle with single gear or an HR1670T twin axle with hub gears and a steerable driven rear axle.
The technical gross weight of the new FAW 8×4 chassis is 37 t, and the steerable driven rear axle provides excellent maneuverability. With a turning radius of just 7.8 m, the FAW 8×4 is ideal for transporting bulky or heavy loads on construction sites with limited space. The new chassis is a great base for tippers, rear-mounted loader cranes, or hook-lift loader crane combinations.
New: CF 10×4
Together with the Dutch partner company Estepe, DAF offers the CF 10×4 large dump truck, specially made for heavy duty conditions. It is equipped with two 10-ton steered front axles, a 10-ton steered rear axle with hydraulic control and lift capability, and an HR1670T twin axle with hub reductions and air suspension.
The payload of this “special” version, which is mainly intended for the transportation of large volumes of sand, gravel and stone, is about 30 tons, and the gross weight is 49 tons. Despite the small number of axles, this design provides enough space to accommodate a 350 liter fuel tank.
XF FTM: 8×4 tractor with triple axle
The XF-based heavy-duty tractor of the latest generation has not yet been presented by an international industry publication. This version of the FTM is an 8×4 tractor with a dual axle SR1360T or HR1670T with dual drive and steerable driven rear axle, which together form a triple axle. This XF is suitable for special transport tasks, the combined weight of which will be up to 120 tons. The presence of one front and three rear axles allows you to use their full load capacity without exceeding the legal axle load.
The XF FTM chassis has a wheelbase of 4.65 m and is characterized by a fairly compact design and a technical gross weight of 41 t. This provides significant advantages in terms of maneuverability and the position of the fifth wheel coupling device, which is important in the case of operating trailers with often limited gooseneck length.
The XF FTM is a four-axle tractor that will be available in various variants. The former has an 8t front axle, an 8t driven rear axle and a 21t HR1670T twin axle with hub reductions, ideal for vehicles with a 34t GVW. The second XF FTM includes a 9 or (new) 10t front axle, an 8t driven rear axle and a 26t twin axle with hub reducers. The maximum useful load on the fifth wheel coupling device in both versions is approximately 24 and 31 tons, respectively.
New: rigid XF 8×2 chassis with two steered front axles
The FAX is a rigid 8×2 chassis with two steerable front axles (8 or 9t) and a steerable driven rear axle (7.5t) behind the drive axle. This version of the chassis is available on the CF models and can now also be ordered on the XF model.
Like the CF series, the XF FAX version guarantees a gross weight of up to 37 t. The steerable rear axle ensures maximum maneuverability, which is very important when transporting construction materials and, for example, when installing a heavy cargo crane behind the cab.
LF and CF Construction
DAF will continue to supply LF and CF Construction for the construction industry, especially off-road trucks. They have a specially designed bumper and radiator grill, a 25 ° clearance angle and a significant ground clearance of 32 (LF) or 40 (CF) cm, thanks to which they can move on any roads. In addition, all DAF Construction models are equipped with a 3mm thick steel panel to protect the radiator. A special step behind the door and rails on the roof of CF Construction will allow you to easily and quickly look into the body or check the cargo.
The CF Construction model is available in FTT 6×4 tractor and FAT 6×4 and FAD 8×4 rigid chassis versions, each with a dual-drive twin axle and the latest version with two steered front axles. CF Construction versions are equipped as standard with a TraXon transmission with a special mode for off-road driving, which ensures optimal gear changes on difficult road sections. A high gear shifting speed guarantees maximum traction at high engine speeds.
The LF Construction model comes with a 19-ton chassis. LF Construction undoubtedly has the same advantages as all LF models: for example, high load capacity due to low curb weight, unrivaled maneuverability, excellent all-round visibility thanks to the additional window in the second driver’s door, low entry height and high fuel economy.
DAF engines: power and efficiency
Maximum torque at low speed: the unique qualities of the latest generation of PACCAR engines are fully manifested when performing tasks in the construction sector. The reliable PACCAR MX-11 (10.8 L) and PACCAR MX-13 (12.9 L) engines installed in the DAF CF and XF models (from 220 kW/299 hp to 390 kW/530 hp) produce maximum torque at a speed of less than 1,000 rpm. Combined with the latest generation TraXon 12- and 16-speed automatic transmissions, this guarantees excellent performance in all conditions. DAF CF vehicles are also available with a 6.7 liter PACCAR PX-7 engine with output from 172 kW / 234 hp. up to 239 kW / 325 hp
Construction vehicles in the LF models are equipped with powerful 3.9L PACCAR PX-4 4-cylinder, 4.5L PACCAR PX-5 and 6.7L PACCAR PX-7 6-cylinder engines, rated from 115 kW/156 hp to 239 kW/325 hp. A wide range of 5-, 6-, 9- and 12-speed manual and/or automatic gearboxes allows you to choose the best option for any task.
Appropriate GDP for any task
A wide selection of power take-off shafts (PTOs) for driving dump trucks, concrete mixers and cranes is of great importance in the construction industry.
DAF supplies engine GDP to be installed in the 1(first) hour position on MX-11 and MX-13 engines. It has a direct pump mount or drive flange, a constant torque of 800 Nm, a maximum power of 1000 Nm and is ideal for heavy duty applications such as on concrete mixers or refuse trucks.
With the PACCAR MX-11 engines, DAF also offers an 11th (eleventh) o’clock version with a direct pump mount. It is installed directly on the engine and has a torque of 250 Nm and a maximum power of 400 Nm. This GDP is ideal for light trucks, for example, equipped with retractable supports or a tipping unloading system.
A wide selection of GDP gearboxes is also available to drive dump truck systems, compressors and loading cranes. In addition, an indirect GDP with a pump connection can be installed at the front. This lightweight GDP is available in either 20 or 35 kW and is ideal for hook lift or dump truck operation.
Maximum ease of attachment
In order to ensure optimal mounting simplicity, DAF installs various body mounting modules (BAMs) directly at the factory. This allows the body manufacturer to quickly and efficiently install, for example, a heavy crane, dump truck or container truck. Moreover, the extended layout of the holes in the rear protrusion simplifies the installation of rear lifts, cranes, a transverse element of traction or rear anti-roll protection. This allows you to reduce costs and prepare trucks for operation faster.
DAF also offers a variety of superstructure control options, both from the cab and from the superstructure. For example, parameters such as engine speed can be controlled from the body, either by analog means or via the CAN bus.
