DAF COMPONENTS PRESENTS NEW ENGINES FOR LONG-DISTANCE BUSES AND CITY BUSES

DAF Components introduces the all-new PACCAR MX-11 and PACCAR MX-13 engine series for long-haul and city buses. The engines provide the lowest fuel consumption, the longest service intervals and excellent road qualities thanks to high torque at low revolutions. The new engines also run perfectly on HVO biodiesel, reducing CO2 emissions.

The new generation PACCAR MX-11 (from 220 kW/299 hp to 330 kW/449 hp) and MX-13 (315 kW/428 hp to 390 kW/530 hp) engines are based on the engines recently introduced by DAF for the XD, XF, XG and XG+ trucks. These engines are now also available for long-distance buses and city buses and will be presented for the first time at Busworld 2023, which will be held from October 7 to 12 in Brussels, Belgium.

New highly efficient engines

The new PACCAR engines and updated exhaust gas cleaning system for long-distance buses and city buses are equipped with the most modern innovative developments to achieve a new level of efficiency and driving comfort. The combustion process of the 10.8-liter PACCAR MX-11 and 12.9-liter PACCAR MX-13 engines has been optimized through the use of new injectors, a new head and cylinder block, as well as a new piston and sleeve design. A new generation of efficient turbochargers are used for the best air management, while new air compressors, oil pumps and alternators ensure that parasitic losses are kept to a minimum. As a result, the new efficient PACCAR MX-11 and MX-13 engines deliver low CO2 emissions and excellent performance. The maximum torque has been further increased by 50-150 Nm and is now available at 900 rpm. The new engine brake provides 20% more low-end torque, setting a new industry standard. In addition, the engines require maintenance only once a year.

Alternative engines

The DAF stand in hall 6 of the Busworld exhibition in Brussels also presented a model of the future electric chassis for compact long-distance buses. “This chassis is under development and is based on the zero-emissions DAF XB Electric urban delivery truck platform,” said Alfred Boiver, director of DAF Components. “Operators of long-distance buses and city buses are increasingly interested in alternative types of engines.
