For trucks that spend most of their time on the road, but sometimes have to travel off-road or on slippery surfaces, DAF offers hydraulic front-wheel drive that canconnect with one click. The new “PXP” drive system developed together with Paul Nutzfahrzeuge will be available for DAF CF and XF 4×2 tractors with the PACCAR MX-11 or MX-13 engine. For other types of chassis, this possibility will appear later this year.
For such difficult cases, DAF offers versions of the CF and XF 4×2 tractors with hydraulic front-wheel drive, which can be connected via a switch on the dashboard. If the car detects slippage of the driving wheels, PXP – “Paul Xtra Power” – is connected automatically. The greater the slippage of the rear wheels, the more traction force is transmitted to the front wheels.
Connection is available up to the 4th gear
DAF plug-in front-wheel drive is available in the first four forward gears and the first and second reverse gears. At speeds above 20 km/h (and/or in 5th gear and above), the PXP returns to standby mode. The system turns on again at lower speeds if it is necessary to use it.
Convenience of management and efficiency are fully preserved
To connect the front drive, each wheel hub of the front axle is equipped with a hydraulic motor, which creates a torque of at least 6435 Nm at a maximum pressure in the system of 360 Bar. This ensures optimal performance, durability and reliability. A unique feature is that the hydraulic motors are driven by a hydraulic pump installed directly on the engine’s VVP, which allows you to reduce the overall weight and save space. In addition, the hydraulic pump can control components such as cranes, hook lifts, stabilizers and skip loading systems for the most efficient operation of the vehicle. In this way, one hydraulic tank is enough for the car – and this also means reducing its own weight and saving space.
Thanks to the new PXP system, DAF has once again demonstrated its ability to create optimal solutions for any transport task. In addition, DAF’s adjustable front-wheel drive provides special advantages in terms of performance, weight and chassis space.
