The DAF exhibition is located in hall 17 of the exhibition complex. Covering a total area of 2,500 m2, the complete range of mainline and professional trucks is presented, setting new quality standards that demonstrate low operating costs and high performance. Among the DAF trucks at the exhibition, the LF models for regional transportation, the versatile CF, developed for the widest range of applications, and the flagship XF models for heavy-duty and long-distance transportation are shown. The CF and XF models were voted International Truck of the Year 2018 thanks to a comprehensive package of technical innovations that reduced fuel consumption by 7% and set new standards in the industry. The DAF LF model received the Fleet Truck of the Year 2018 award in Great Britain.

PACCAR Financial, PacLease, PACCAR Parts, DAF MultiSupport with repair and maintenance contracts and the DAF Connect fleet management system featured prominently in DAF’s display at the IAA, underlining once again the importance that DAF and its 1,100 sales and service dealers place on supporting their premium products.

On the way to creating cars with zero emissions

DAF presented a full line of innovative trucks at the IAA exhibition, underscoring DAF’s commitment to further strengthening its leading position in the field of fuel-saving and low-emission technologies. This range includes the LF Electric and CF Electric models for intra-city transportation in medium and heavy-duty conditions, as well as the CF Hybrid model for medium-distance transportation with zero emissions within city limits and the best overall efficiency. These innovative solutions were developed to meet the needs of improving air quality in cities and reducing CO2 emissions.

Innovative truck with electric drive DAF LF Electric

DAF LF Electric is a fully electric truck weighing 19 tons, designed for intra-city transportation with zero emissions. This car is equipped with Cummins technology with a 195 kW / 266 hp electric motor. (Peak power: 250 kW / 340 hp). Power is provided by a battery pack with a capacity of up to 222 kW ∙ h, thanks to which a fully loaded car has a range of up to 220 km. Since the battery pack has a modular design, the capacity can be changed according to customers’ needs.

The DAF LF Electric range of 220 km is an ideal indicator for intra-city transportation.

Innovative truck with electric drive DAF CF Electric

The DAF CF Electric model is an ideal zero-emission solution for intra-city transportation, which requires a truck with increased load capacity and the ability to transport larger loads, including the standard use of single-axle or two-axle semi-trailers, for example, when delivering products to supermarkets.

The CF Electric model is a tractor with a 4×2 wheel formula and a gross vehicle weight of up to 37 tons. The car was created on the basis of the universal DAF CF series – International Truck of the Year 2018 (International Truck of the Year 2018 award). Its design uses the advanced VDL E-Power technology, which ensures operation exclusively from the electric drive. The center of the intelligent power unit is a 210 kW / 286 hp electric motor. (Peak power: 240 kW / 326 hp) powered by a 170 kW ∙ h lithium-ion battery pack.

CF Electric has a range of about 100 km, which is excellent for intra-city transportation of bulky goods. Quick charging of the batteries takes 30 minutes, and full charging takes only 1.5 hours. You can charge the battery pack during loading and unloading.

Innovative hybrid truck DAF CF Hybrid

The DAF CF Hybrid model was developed with the aim of using an exclusively electric drive within the city limits to ensure a zero emission level, as well as a significant increase in the driving range outside urban areas due to the latest ultra-clean diesel technology. The combination of a diesel engine and an electric motor guarantees maximum logistics efficiency.

The flagship DAF CF Hybrid is equipped with a highly efficient 10.8 liter PACCAR MX-11 engine (330 kW / 450 hp) and a ZF electric motor (75 kW / 100 hp / peak power: 130 kW / 175 hp) combined with a special ZF Traxon gearbox for hybrid transmissions.

The electric motor is powered by a battery pack with a capacity of 85 kW ∙ h., which makes it possible to achieve a range of 30-50 km on an all-electric drive with zero emissions (depending on the gross weight of the road train). The batteries can be charged by the diesel engine while the vehicle is driving on the highway or by a DC charger at a charging station. The car is equipped with the possibility of quick charging of batteries – a full charge will take 30 minutes, and it will take only 20 minutes to charge to 80%.

Outside the city limits, the CF Hybrid model is powered by the environmentally friendly and efficient PACCAR MX-11 diesel engine, where hybrid technology provides additional fuel savings thanks to intelligent energy management. Energy suitable for regenerative braking is used by the electric motor to assist the diesel engine in those situations where it is most efficient, allowing further reductions in fuel consumption.

The hybrid system’s battery pack supplies power to the electric powertrain, electric air compressor and optional electric-by-wire intelligent power take-off (PTO). KOM can be used to ensure the operation of refrigeration equipment on semi-trailers for transporting goods under temperature control, which additionally reduces the noise level during operation.

Customer-focused strategy

“The first priority of any development is to create a solution that represents value from the perspective of our customers,” said Ron Borsboom, board member and head of product development. “Our approach has always been and always will be thorough testing of our new developments before launch. The same customer-focused strategy applies to electric and hybrid trucks. In the future, zero-emission and low-noise vehicles may be needed due to the active discussion of creating zero-emission zones in cities where our customers will need to operate. the most diverse transport solutions”.

The first CF Electric electric trucks will be handed over for operational trials to major customers this year, and similar trials for the LF Electric and CF Hybrid models are planned for 2019. DAF will be ready to put these innovative vehicles into production as soon as the market is ready for them.

90 years of DAF excellence

To celebrate DAF’s 90th anniversary, the historic DAF 1600 from the late 1960s and an exclusive anniversary version of the XF are on display at the IAA stand. This exclusive DAF XF marks the anniversary of DAF’s founding in 1928. This car is equipped with a set of premium options, has unique decorative stripes and exterior design elements, and is also equipped with the most powerful PACCAR MX-13 engine with a capacity of 530 hp. / 390 kW. The famous historic DAF logo is placed on the front of the truck, on the sides, on the back of the cab, as well as in the luxurious full leather interior.

Over the past 90 years, DAF has developed market-leading trucks in Europe.

DAF’s share of the European heavy-duty vehicle market increased from 15.3% in 2017 to 16.5% in the first half of this year. DAF Trucks is the market leader in heavy-duty vehicles in the Netherlands, Hungary, Great Britain, Poland, Belgium, Romania, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria, and also occupies a leading position in the tractor segment throughout Europe. In addition, DAF is the largest import brand in Germany.

“With excellent trucks that set the standard for efficiency and quality, and industry-leading service, DAF is well positioned to further expand its presence in Europe and beyond,” said Harry Walters, President of DAF Trucks.

At the DAF stand in Hall 17, dedicated areas for best-in-class trucks for long-distance transport and professional use clearly show that DAF is able to provide the perfect vehicle for any transport task.
